 Lexis Middle East newsletter
Dear Mr./ Mrs.,

Over the last few months we’ve been working our way round the Gulf and adding material from the respected Lexgulf Business Laws series. Legislation from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait is now available on the Lexis Middle East Law online platform; making it easier than ever for lawyers to advise their clients on doing business across the GCC.

Up until now this popular service - which has been running since the 1970s and is well known for its high quality translations - has only been available in print. For the first time, it can now be searched, linked and browsed alongside a wealth of commentary, case law and legal news.

Subscribers can choose which jurisdictions they want added to their core package and to compliment this, we will shortly be adding a database detailing the laws and gazette entries for all these countries, as well as those of Bahrain and former Trucial States’ legislation still in force.

Our service also has a new Practical Guidance area which provides easy to use Q&A based commentary on key areas of law including real estate, oil and gas, transport, franchising, and arbitration for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iran and Egypt.

We’ve also made it easier for law firms to keep up to date with legal news and draft laws in the pipeline with our new “Latest” page. This shows the most recent legal developments from across the GCC and the wider Middle East. Our in-house research team review over 200 English and Arabic sources (from across the Middle East) on a daily basis to make sure you don’t miss anything. Don’t wait for your client to tell you about a new law he or she has heard about.

What have you been missing….. this month?
Lexis Middle East Law provides a full daily email news service covering UAE and the wider Middle East region – which users can tailor to their own choice of practice areas and jurisdictions.

Official Gazette News

Signing up to our personalised email service is also the best way to keep up to date with new laws (both public and private) being issued in the UAE and Emirate Official Gazettes. Our editors translate the names and Gazette locations of all new laws and classify them by topic and jurisdiction so you can receive in your personalised email alert details of any new laws relevant to you and your clients’ interests.

Here’s a small selection of some of the other developments we’ve reported in the last month as part of our news service.
Featured Case of the Month

“Lexis Middle East Law has an archive of nearly 1500 UAE and Dubai cases which are added to on a monthly basis – and interlinked with our legislation. A growing number of full text Arabic and English judgments are being added and subscribers can request specific cases via the ‘Request A Document Service’. This is just one of the interesting ones.”

164/2005 on 28/02/2006
This case from the Dubai Court of Cassation, looked at Article 141 of Federal Law No. 8/1980 and decided that a worker is prohibited from combining his retirement scheme entitlement, insurance or any similar scheme with a gratuity.
